Artist Statement
As a child – one of six – my family never traveled very much. Lots of camping in Oregon and Washington.
In my later life, I have had a few travel opportunities and I try to go as far away and to as unique a destination as I can find. Recent travel to the islands of Indonesia certainly lived up to all of my expectations. I came home with a computer full of photos, but they didn’t really recall my feelings of visiting there.
That led to the creation of the monotypes in “Afterimages,” a collection that brings to mind the colors, and feelings and patterns I experienced in this beautiful place of varied traditions and cultures. I was successful enough in the execution of these pieces, that I wish I could return tomorrow!
