A substantial portion of Marguerite Fletcher’s artwork has always been rooted in landscape, from local (home)-scapes to more distant locations that, for her, resonate with personal meaning. In the rhythm of her practice she also employs methods of formal abstraction to investigate the language of color—its sensory and associative impacts, independent of representational forms.
In this most recent series, Algorithms for the Heart, both approaches, landscape and abstraction, are in play. The paintings are scaled to micro and macro environments using watercolor, pastels, and oil paint on sanded paper.
