Obeisance/Derision both honors and mocks. One section features an installation homage to nature using wood, encaustic, wire, paper, thread, yarn, sterling and clay. A second section features encaustic paintings and porcelain sculptures that mock the current administration. The body of work as a whole espouses the idea that art making itself is a political act. By persisting in a meaningful career that rarely pays well, the artist’s values are on display. She chose humble materials and employs several techniques considered ‘feminine’, like hand stitching and crochet, in response to the sexism within government, Hollywood, and throughout society.
