Statement
The drawings in this exhibit express my surprisingly strong attraction to a group of insignificant, unrelated things: crude metal scraps from a welding classroom and super-sized tables and benches near Stehekin in North Cascades National Park.
Using mixed-media materials and techniques, I let the shapes dictate the pattern and flow of my drawings. Hand-embossing each one over and over, I surrendered intention to the mesmerizing effects of repetition. Instinct overtook thought. As I mindlessly pressed and embossed, the repetitive patterns that emerged convey on paper both the simplicity of the shapes and the texture of metal and wood.
