Statement

David Traylor

Gardens embody balance, color and order but also chaos, disorder and complexity. Gardens also represent the history and stories of the people who have built them. Serenity, romance, art and power can all be expressed and experienced in gardens.

Using the metaphor of gardens and landscapes as a starting point, Anna Macrae and David Traylor have created paintings, ceramics and mixed media constructions.

David Traylor is a visual artist and landscape architect who makes gardens and landscapes, both real and imaginary.  He is interested in how places are defined through their presence, are defined or marked through narrative (their stories, histories and interpretations) and through context (how they fit into the bigger world).
