The 3-D paintings I have recently been making spring from every-day-life objects I have stumbled upon – my mother in law’s beads or other objects, banal and meaningless due to no longer being in use. These obsolete objects work for me as terrain vague (vague space) because of their absence of use and purpose. They have a sort of vacant signification that recalls a sense of freedom in me. My way of working by making, doing and undoing fits very well this vague space. The paintings in Viewpoint spring as well from the little beach house where I live by the shore, and, as a counterbalance, from the colors, patterns and shapes that I used in my childhood.
