In Rituals, Robin Arnitz shares a series of abstracted figurative paintings. Using self-portraiture, she gives an unvarnished look at the life and unsung, unending labor of motherhood. The paintings act as vignettes of domestic moments in which a dreamlike space and expressive mark making reveal mood and emotion. Arnitz explores what these daily tasks might say about parenthood, identity, and time spent. She hopes the paintings shed light on the amount of work that is put on caretakers and will promote discussion of how society can better support them –  or at least help other parents realize that they aren’t alone.
