ARTIST STATEMENT

 South Carolina native and Seattle-based artist Amanda C. Sweet draws inspiration from the estuarine currents and wrack zones of Puget Sound in her chance-based, abstract paintings and works on paper. She uses acrylic ink and water-based and solvent-light spray paint, paired with masking techniques and Zen-painting methodologies, to explore transformative, mindful processes that embody the essence of the sea. 

Amanda received a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design in 2007 and an MFA in Painting + Drawing from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2015. She works as a professional studio artist and a graphic designer and project assistant at a women-owned environmental consulting firm in Seattle.
