Artist Statement

John leans on traditional camera techniques to create colorful and approachable works. Photography as subject and medium means that most of his work exploits its flatness and the inherent cultural use and knowledge of the medium, however, the pursuit of the perfect image is not his objective. Recent series investigate the interplay of nuanced time, line and form into compositions of sequenced images. In other works, John pushes beyond the traditional frame of the camera through alternative presentation and materials. John received a BFA in photography from RIT, lives and works in Seattle.
