Artist Statement

For a decade I have been exploring themes of power struggles, gender, and expressive mark-making through painting. Recently, I have a new perspective of these issues, especially in relation to parenthood. In 2019 I gave birth to an amazing child. I was incredibly lucky to have an easy baby and supportive partner. Even in this fortunate situation I still find myself struggling to find time to shower, let alone advance my career. Many other women artists with children have come before me. How did they make it work within a society that still prioritizes a man’s career? In my work, I investigate these and other complex problems related to womanhood.
