Carmi Weingrod

Carmi Weingrod is a mixed-media artist who combines printmaking, painting, drawing, and collage to create large abstract works on paper and fabric – using a wide range of materials and techniques. She also create installations that recast places and objects marked by time into contemporary statements. Her background in historic preservation and cultural geography draws her to places where natural and built environments intersect and even collide over time. At these junctions, she discovers the richest sources for her imagery. Her creative practice begins outside the studio on foot, bicycle, or skis. She spends hours observing, sketching, and photographing places and things that interest her. Once in the studio, she translates all the visual material she’s collected into an abstract vocabulary of patterns, shapes, and textures.
