Artist Statement

I initially became interested in painting because I loved fooling around with paint. I attended the University of Washington where I encountered more cerebral and conceptual ideas about art but the real allure of painting continued to be the physicality of painting, having my own little chaos to control, and the sheer pleasure of “looking”.

The starting point for most of my work is the landscape. Not necessarily the view but rather the experience of moving through the view – these fragmented moments with overwhelming amounts of stimuli, odd juxtapositions, and neural sensations are the places where I often find images that engage me.
