Anna Macrae continues to explore the physicality of mundane materials as she plays with the notion of space and form whilst combining high and low grade making mediums to create two and three dimensional pieces.

This collection challenges convention by building complex surfaces that come off the canvas, giving way to irregular broken lines and edges to frame the work. The simplistic painted shapes are in contrast to the activated surfaces, and as such bring some element of calm to the otherwise detailed buildup of texture and layers

Macrae also plays with some construction pieces by making intimate three dimensional wall sculptures. These have an immediacy and rawness in their process and appearance whilst being composed of interconnected parts that are completed with a vibrant color pallet.

“My intention with my art making is to take everyday detritus from our apparently average lives, and build sculptural forms and paintings to honor our shared experiences and connections. My aim is to make beautiful messy imperfections reflecting life’s journey of discovery whilst being grounded in the mundane.”
