July 10th – August 6th, 2026
Opening: Friday July 10th, 6 – 8 PM

Anna Macrae and Flora Ramirez-Bustamante met at Kirkland Art Center some 20 years ago and have continued in friendship and artmaking ever since. Their work plays with ambiguities that reference interiority, accumulation, history, humor and the unexpected.
Neither artist steps away from the object in their practice. It is either to make an object or represent one. Whether through painting, vessels, or sculptural forms, each piece in this exhibition contributes to a broader, fragmented narrative—sometimes chaotic, always eclectic—that shapes the personal imaginary of these two European artists. Their work invites us into a lyrical and symbolic conversation with the domestic and the memories that are embedded within the surface.
Macrae’s work reveals an expressive energy and immediacy in the hand-built quality of her work whilst she explores materiality, constructions and deconstructions. Her practice is tied to time and to everyday objects. She examines how ordinary things relate to their surroundings, using a wide range of materials, including found and repurposed items.
Ramirez-Bustamante’s often figurative work does not seek to document reality or provide narrative context. Instead, she draws on art history and modernist genres while experimenting with techniques, formats, symbols, and materials. Her compositions often carry an everyday lyricism, alongside a sense of imbalance or imperfection. Rooted in deconstruction, her process often moves from painting to installation, searching for a dialogue between object, image, and fragment.
