I love baskets of all vintages, kinds and materials. I love that they are rich in cultural history and can be both beautiful and useful and are often expressively handmade and satisfyingly of the earth. I’ve both collected them and made them, in materials ranging from seaweed, grasses and fibers to paper, wire and clay. The basket form, or even an approximation of the form, always attracts my eye. In this show I step slightly off the reservation to create basketlike constructions and images that I like to think of as almost baskets.
