Sue Springer | Connectivity

December 7-30, 2023

Opening/First Thursday Art Walk: December 7, 5 – 8 pm

Sue Springer and Susan Mask will present Connectivity for the month of December. Springer’s large abstracted ceramic figures and Mask’s colorful expressive paintings show connections with color and form.

A new collaborative work, Connectivity, combining an assemblage of painted panels, uses the figure as a starting point with color and pattern connecting the two artists. Bright bold hues, line and shapes characterize the distinctive styles and the similarities of the two artists in unexpected ways.

Artist Statement | Sue Springer

Springer’s ceramic sculptures take an abstracted figurative form with large, bold elements stacked to create whimsical forms. Arms and hands are represented although not necessarily in the proper place, heads and unruly hair appear on tilted shoulders. The figures stand up almost human sized to represent hidden strength and resiliency in this difficult time.

As humans we yearn for connectivity and interconnection, yet too often we focus on the things that divide us. This work focuses on the unexpected, the possibilities and the connections.

The figures are born of the fire and are always surprising.
